A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), asking the anti-graft agency to investigate the financial dealings and sources of wealth of businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest.
Ogah, who represents Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State, reportedly asked the EFCC to examine the socialite’s assets and financial transactions following allegations of money laundering and suspicious financial flows.
The allegations have not been established, and the EFCC has yet to publicly confirm receipt of the petition or announce the commencement of any investigation against Cubana Chief Priest.
The development comes amid a public dispute triggered by a viral video in which Cubana Chief Priest criticised Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru and described his administration as a failure, while reportedly calling on the governor to resign.
Ogah subsequently defended the governor and challenged the socialite to publicly identify the legitimate businesses and investments financing his lifestyle.
The lawmaker’s challenge has now progressed into a formal request for EFCC intervention, with Ogah seeking scrutiny of Cubana Chief Priest’s financial activities and the sources of his wealth.
However, the petition by itself does not amount to a finding of wrongdoing, and no evidence establishing the allegations has been made public in the material available.
As of the time of the report, the EFCC had not issued an official statement confirming receipt of the petition, while Cubana Chief Priest or his representatives had also not formally responded to the allegations.
The controversy therefore remains at the allegation and petition stage, pending any decision by the anti-graft agency on whether to investigate the claims.
