Mr Peter Obi, 2027 Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned the killing of social media commentator, Ibrahim Shagamu, in his home in Kano.
The former Anambra governor in a post on his X account, described the incident as deeply saddening.
Obi stressed that no disagreement, criticism or neighbourhood dispute could justify the taking of a human life.
He said those, who expressed their opinions, criticised others or held divergent views should not be made to live in fear.
Obi urged the Kano state government and relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation into the incident.
He called for all those found responsible for the killing to be brought to justice.
According to him, the Nigerian constitution guarantees every citizen the fundamental right to freedom of expression, which must be protected regardless of differences.
The NDC presidential candidate commiserated with the deceased’s family, friends, colleagues and followers.
He prayed that Almighty God would grant the deceased eternal rest and give his loved ones the strength and comfort to bear the painful loss. (NAN)
