“NIS Extends UK Passport Intervention To October 3 After Processing 1,477 Applicants” — Akinlabi

The Nigeria Immigration Service has extended its special passport intervention exercise in the United Kingdom by two weeks following a high turnout of Nigerians seeking passport services.
The exercise, which was originally scheduled to end on September 19, will now continue until October 3, 2026, at the London and Manchester centres.
NIS Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Akinlabi said the extension was approved following a directive by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to increase capacity and ensure that more Nigerians living in the UK benefit from the exercise.
According to the Service, 1,477 Nigerians were enrolled during the first four days of the intervention, while passports had already been produced and dispatched to more than half of the applicants.
“The extension is necessary to accommodate more Nigerians in view of the high turnout and interest recorded so far,” the statement said.
The NIS explained that appointments must be obtained through the official website of the Nigeria High Commission in the UK.
Applicants are required to present a completed application form and payment receipt, appointment slip, existing passport where applicable, and a prepaid self-addressed return envelope.
The Service stressed that the exercise is fully automated and strictly cashless, warning applicants against making unauthorised payments to individuals.
It stated that the official passport fees remain $162 for a five-year passport and $242 for a 10-year passport, adding that no additional fee is required for the special intervention.
The NIS advised applicants to obtain information about the exercise only through its official communication channels and those of the Nigeria High Commission.
