From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri

Residents of the Nkaramuche, Ihiagwa community in Owerri West Local Government Area are in jubilant mood following the activation of constant electricity supply to the area, under the Orashi Power Project, making them the first community in Imo State to benefit from the project.

The development, residents said, at the weekend, has ended years of epileptic power supply and is already reviving socio-economic activities in the community.

Speaking during the celebration, indigenes, traders, and the management, staff and students of Shekinah British International School commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for what they described as his listening and people-focused leadership.

They said the steady power supply would not only improve businesses and learning, but also raise the general well-being of the people.

Community members also showered encomiums on the Managing Director of Shekinah British International School, Dr. Obinna George-Smart Unegbu, for championing the push for electricity in the area.

They described Dr. Unegbu as a committed community leader whose constant appeal to the state government helped to fast-track the project.

A phone accessories seller in the area, Mr. Udo said the new development was beyond expectations.

“Today, you can see a very big smile on my face. It is a thing of joy to see this light after many years of suffering light issues,” he said. “For some of us, we didn’t believe that we would enjoy constant light supply in this country. No one could have imagined something like this. Indeed, we are immensely grateful.”

Also speaking, a trader and indigene Mr. Basil Edoziem, thanked both the government and Dr. Unegbu.

“While we appreciate the state government, I must also give special thanks to Chief Dr. George-Smart Unegbu for doing everything possible to ensure that we see and enjoy this light, today,” he said. “We urge him to continue to do more for our people.”

Dr. Unegbu, described the power restoration as an answered prayer. He said Ihiagwa was proud to be the first beneficiary of the Orashi Power Project.

“Our governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, has, through this light up Imo project, once again, proven that he has genuine love for Ihiagwa people,” he said.

“Remember, we cried to him over our dilapidated roads and, now, you can see improvement in our roads. Also, today, we have gotten light and I am pretty sure he will continue to reach our other needs because he is a compassionate and listening governor.

“On behalf of the management, staff and students of Shekinah British International School, as well as the entire people of Nkaramuche Ihiagwa Community, I most sincerely thank our performing governor,” Dr. Unegbu added. “We assure him of the continued support and cooperation of our people to his administration.”
