“Osun APC Reviews Governorship Election Results, Considers Tribunal Challenge” — Consults Legal Team, Says Election Is Not Over Yet

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has said it is reviewing the outcome of the 2026 governorship election across the state’s 332 wards and consulting its legal team on whether to challenge the result before the Election Petition Tribunal.
The party disclosed this in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, following the declaration of the election result by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to the APC, the declaration of a winner by INEC does not necessarily bring the electoral process to an end, as aggrieved parties are constitutionally entitled to seek redress through the Election Petition Tribunal and, where necessary, pursue appeals up to the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
“An election cannot be said to have been concluded without having explored all these constitutionally allowed legal opportunities to correct anomalies observed in the process of the election as enshrined in the Electoral Act 2026 as amended,” the party said.
The APC said it would not hesitate to explore any legal window available under the Electoral Act after receiving professional advice from its lawyers.
It described the possibility of seeking judicial redress as part of the democratic process, stressing that INEC’s declaration would not make the party abandon what it described as its commitment to the rule of law, fairness and justice.
The party said it was carefully studying the results and developments from the 332 wards before determining its next course of action.
It also commended its members and supporters for what it described as their steadfastness, sagacity and loyalty throughout the electoral process, saying their efforts had contributed to the party’s position in the state’s political history.
The APC, however, appealed to its supporters to remain calm and continue with their normal activities, urging them not to respond to any provocative action or inaction it alleged might come from members of the ruling party.
The party further appealed to the Nigeria Police Force to protect its members and supporters, alleging that some of them were being “needlessly molested” after the election.
It assured its supporters that the party would not abandon them and urged them not to despair over the outcome of the poll.
“The current situation in the political history of the state is a passing phase which will soon become part of history as justice shall be done accordingly,” the statement added.
The APC has yet to formally announce whether it will file a petition at the tribunal, saying its final decision will depend on the outcome of the ongoing review and the advice of its legal team.
