“Police Launch Nationwide NHF Data Verification For Personnel” — Exercise Targets Faster Retirement Refunds Begin Exercise August 3–17

The Nigeria Police Force has directed all its commands, formations and affiliated units across the country to cooperate with a nationwide National Housing Fund data capture and verification exercise aimed at updating personnel records and facilitating the timely processing of refunds upon retirement.
The directive was reportedly contained in a confidential police wireless message marked “M/Immediate,” dated July 27, 2026, and referenced CV:9005/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.17/95.
The signal, issued by the Inspector-General of Police Secretariat in Abuja, was circulated to senior officers, operational departments and strategic police formations nationwide.
Recipients included the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations Support, the Department of Operations, the Police Mobile Force, the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit, the Special Task Force, the Police Intelligence Bureau, the Technical Intelligence Unit and other security units.
Police liaison offices attached to the National Assembly and the Federal Inland Revenue Service were also included, alongside units serving at the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
The directive was also sent to the Police Officers’ Wives Association and other police staff offices.
According to the communication, the exercise followed an earlier message from the Nigeria Police National Housing Fund Project Office at Force Headquarters, Abuja, dated July 23, 2026.
The police said the initiative resulted from a strategic engagement between the Nigeria Police National Housing Fund Project and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria over challenges affecting the registration and administration of police personnel under the NHF scheme.
The engagement reportedly examined issues relating to the integrity of contributors’ records, reconciliation of monthly contributions, identification of contributors and the processing of refunds for retiring police personnel.
Eligible civilian workers and teachers serving within the Nigeria Police structure will also participate in the exercise.
The signal stated that the project had reached a “critical implementation stage,” requiring physical engagement with personnel at police commands and formations nationwide.
A joint team comprising officials of the Nigeria Police National Housing Fund Project and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria has consequently been mandated to conduct the exercise from August 3 to 17, 2026.
The exercise will involve the physical verification of contributors, registration of personnel who have not been properly captured and the updating of existing records.
It is also intended to reconcile inconsistencies in contribution records and establish a reliable database containing accurate details of police officers and other eligible employees contributing to the housing fund.
According to the police, an accurate national database will support the identification of contributors and reduce delays associated with the processing of eligible NHF refunds when personnel retire from service.
The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria has also provided a dedicated online registration and records-update portal to facilitate the exercise.
The Inspector-General of Police Secretariat directed all commands, formations and units to give the exercise adequate publicity and ensure that the information reaches all affected officers and employees.
Recipients of the signal were instructed to treat the exercise as “very important” and take all necessary steps to ensure its successful implementation between August 3 and 17.
The directive is expected to enable police personnel to confirm that their biodata and contribution records are accurate before retirement, while assisting the FMBN in reconciling contributions and processing refunds for eligible beneficiaries.
