The Chairman of Andoni Local Government Area in Rivers State, Hon. Prince Lucky Promise-Otuo, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing the safety, security, and overall welfare of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the area. He made this pledge during a warm interactive session with the corps members at the Council’s Secretariat in Ngo Town, the administrative headquarters of the LGA.
Addressing the corps members, Hon. Promise-Otuo emphasized the crucial role that youth corpers play in the grassroots development of Andoni. He noted that for these young men and women to effectively discharge their primary assignments in schools, healthcare facilities, and local administrative offices, their peace of mind and physical safety must be fully guaranteed.
To ensure a secure environment, the Chairman announced plans to strengthen collaboration with local security agencies, community leaders, and traditional institutions. “Your safety is our top priority,” Promise-Otuo stated. “We want you to feel at home throughout your service year in Andoni. My administration is actively working to ensure that every community hosting a corps member remains secure, welcoming, and peaceful.”
In addition to security, the Chairman promised to address welfare concerns, including upgrading accommodation facilities and ensuring that basic amenities are accessible. He encouraged the corps members to see their deployment to Andoni as an opportunity to make a lasting impact. He highlighted that the youth are the backbone of national progress and that their diverse skills in education, technology, and healthcare are highly needed to drive local growth. Consequently, he urged them to initiate viable Community Development Service (CDS) projects, promising the Council’s full support.
Responding on behalf of the corps members, the liaison officer thanked the Chairman for his proactive leadership and genuine concern for their well-being. The corps members noted that this timely reassurance from the local government leadership has significantly boosted their morale and alleviated initial anxieties about serving in a new environment. They expressed renewed enthusiasm to serve Andoni LGA diligently.
