ABUJA-THE 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi has arrived at the headquarters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC in Abuja for the party’s presidential screening ahead of the 2027 general election.
The former Anambra State governor, widely seen as a leading contender and the sole candidate for the party’s ticket, arrived at about 6:45 p.m. dressed in his usual black kaftan and cap.
He was accompanied by Senator Victor Umeh, NDC, Anambra Central and later submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms through an aide.
His arrival came shortly after the chairman of the screening committee, Sam Egwu, entered the venue.
Speculation over Obi’s emergence as a possible consensus candidate has intensified in recent days following the NDC’s decision to suspend the sale of presidential nomination forms while extending deadlines for other elective positions.
Although both Obi’s camp and the party leadership have denied any consensus arrangement, political attention around his candidacy continues to grow.
The NDC had earlier announced a 17-member screening committee to oversee the exercise for aspirants contesting various offices ahead of the 2027 elections.
