Adedayo had been suspended by the Legislative Council of Ijebu East Local Government Area of the state for three months on Thursday. The council had suspended Adedayo on the grounds of maladministration and funds mismanagement.

Adedayo’s suspension closely followed accusations he made against Ogun State’s Governor Dapo Abiodun. He had accused the governor of withholding federal allocations that were due to the local councils in the state over the past two years.

In a letter dated August 28, 2023, and addressed to former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba, Adedayo had appealed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain to intervene and ensure that Abiodun released the allocations to the local councils, as mandated by the 1999 Constitution.

Adedayo also wrote petitions to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) on Tuesday, urging the bodies to convince Abiodun to allow local government allocations reach the appropriate quarters.

Neither the DSS nor the Ogun State government had reacted to Adedayo’s arrest at press time.
