The Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Comrade Faruq Olabode, has paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Dr. Kehinde Oluwadare, as part of efforts to strengthen the relationship between the students’ constituency and grassroots leadership.
This was contained in a Monday statement signed by the Olabode and sent to Daily Sun.
According to the statement, the NANS Ogun JCC chairman commended the council boss for his developmental initiatives across Ijebu East LG, particularly his interventions and provisions in the healthcare sector that positively impact students and young people within the council.
Olabode also acknowledged and appreciated the chairman’s longstanding commitment to youth development and leadership, recalling his service as Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Ogun State and his continued contributions to the advancement of young people in the state.
Discussions also centred on possible areas of collaboration between NANS Ogun JCC and the office of the council chairman, particularly in the areas of student welfare, education, youth empowerment, skills development, healthcare, and other initiatives capable of improving the wellbeing and future prospects of students within the local government.
In his response, the LG chairman reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the students’ constituency.
He drew from his own experience in student and youth leadership, having served as a Vice President of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Secretary-General of the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS), as well as participated in youth development platforms including the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and youth parliaments in Ogun State.
Oluwadare advised the leadership of NANS to remain student-oriented and focused on service, stressing the importance of building meaningful and sustainable relationships with stakeholders rather than pursuing immediate gains or personal benefits.
He further encouraged NANS leadership to remain actively involved in the democratic process and participate responsibly in the forthcoming elections, emphasising the importance of youth and student participation in shaping the future of society.
The NANS Ogun JCC Chairman expressed appreciation to the Executive Chairman for the warm reception, insightful counsel, and willingness to collaborate with the students’ constituency.
“NANS Ogun JCC remains committed to constructive engagement with government at all levels and will continue to pursue partnerships that place the welfare, development, and future of Nigerian students at the centre of its leadership agenda,” the statement reads in part.
